 Quasimoto - Unseen
 Stones Throw

Quasimoto - Unseen Other than the nasal-drip voice, the most impressive thing about Quasimoto is how he fastens listeners for a field trip into his conscious and subconscious-like a movie called "Being Quasimoto." He details practical urban living, though at times, it seems more like an ordinary Thursday night cruising the L.A. streets. Call on the assistance of talented beatminer Madlib and you have a two-man crew ready to set sail for an unpredictable odyssey.

"Bad Character" opens up the 24-track trail, revealing Lord Quasimoto's colorful thumbprint steez: smoked-out escapades, madcap reveries-he's the cool antagonist. One of the best tracks, "Low End Conspiracy," recounts an imagined bank heist. Appropriately, the oddly waggish "Come On Feet," would be the next step, when the duo flee the scene urging their feet to run! "Put a Curse On You" is another outlandish and funny concept track that warns on anyone who steps to Quas. On that note, he calls out cornballs and suckas on "Bluffin." For the record, Quas is not the most lyrical, but he still gives the mic a good rippin' on "Microphone Mathematics."

"The Unseen" simply culminates Quasimoto's spontaneous and puzzling disposition, as Madlib boasts a nice collection of sounds to sketch out the backdrop. If you didn't already know, Madlib's sound is not that easy to put a handle on: His tracks dissolve into mere transitioned breaks, fluidly combining with unequaled chemistry. "Phony Game," with its old-school sound, and "Axe Puzzles," with its capturing downbeat, showcase Madlib's ability to work various sonic angles.

Like a movie, this LP unfolds subplots and various emotions add zest-you'll laugh, you'll cry, but most of all, you'll nod your head. Like a shadow lurking in a dark alley, Quasimoto and Madlib creep up with some gritty, cutting-edge sounds that demand quick attention. Sleep any longer and you're bound to catch a bad one-word bet!
